Our approach to sustainability

At Betallic, we think a lot about the balance between joy and responsibility. Balloons are meant to lift a moment, not weigh on the planet, so we’ve been intentional about the partners we work with and the materials behind our products.

Our foil balloons are made in Italy by Grabo S.R.L., a company that keeps production close to home so they can control quality and avoid anything toxic or questionable in the process. They care about the people making the balloons as much as the balloons themselves, which lines up with how we like to work.

Our latex balloons come from Sempertex in Colombia. They make their balloons from natural rubber latex, straight from rubber trees, not plastics; and they’ve built a thoughtful environmental system around how they source, process, and clean their materials.

We know how important responsible celebration is, so we work with manufacturers who put care into every part of the process. Better materials, safer production, and thoughtful use all add up to the kind of moments we can feel good about making.

Why our latex balloons are a more responsible choice

Latex balloons naturally start with a renewable material, rubber trees, which continue to grow and produce latex for years. Sempertex keeps their formulas clean, avoiding fillers or plasticizers that slow breakdown. Their facilities run under ISO environmental guidelines, and they treat their water and energy usage as part of the process, not an afterthought.

Distributors who carry Sempertex often point out the same things: these balloons are biodegradable, made from pure latex, and free from the additives that complicate disposal. Many also note that latex breaks down in a way similar to other natural materials when it’s handled properly.

For us, this means our latex line reflects:

A renewable raw material

Cleaner formulations

Environmental certifications

A supply chain that values education around proper use and disposal

Cleaner production behind our latex balloons

Sempertex’s sustainability work isn’t a marketing line. They’ve put structure behind it:
• Their balloons are made from natural latex and don’t include TMTD, plasticizers, fillers, or shortcut ingredients
• They’re certified under ISO 14001 and stick to those standards
• Their production runs on one hundred percent certified renewable energy
• Water used in the process goes through a dedicated treatment system before it leaves the facility
• Their inks are tested and approved for safety, including use in children’s products

All of these steps add up to a cleaner, more thoughtful production process that supports the celebrations our products are made for.

What makes our foil balloons a more mindful option

Foil balloons are not biodegradable, which is why we focus on durability and responsible manufacturing. Grabo oversees every step of production, allowing them to maintain high material standards and ensure their balloons are made in safe, well regulated environments. Their approach centers on creating long lasting balloons that can be refilled or reused, and they continue to explore more efficient materials and processes, including recycled foil options. As of 2024, all 18” Grabo balloons are made with 40% recycled material without performance loss.

For our customers, that means foil balloons that:
• Hold up better and can be reused
• Are made under strong labor and safety practices
• Align with ongoing efforts to lighten environmental impact

It’s part of an ongoing commitment to responsible production.

Responsible use and disposal

No sustainability conversation is complete without what happens after the celebration.

The basics are simple:
• Never release balloons outdoors, latex or foil
• Always weight your balloons
• Deflate them fully when you’re done
• Latex should go in the trash (or compost if your area allows it)
• Foil should be reused, repurposed, or recycled through the right programs

These guidelines come from across the industry, manufacturers, distributors and environmental groups; and we fully support them.

At Betallic, sustainability is a long chain of decisions, from the materials we choose to the factories we trust to the way balloons are used in the real world. When everyone plays their part, the impact is real. And the joy is still there, right where it belongs.
